Introduction - History
In the 50s, Armando Almeida, a man from the Douro Valley, born in Régua, went to Angola where he dedicated his life to cotton growing.
In 1975, he returned to the Douro Valley, and together with his brothers Fernando and David, bought Quinta Santo António.
Devoted to the vineyards, Armando Almeida became the sole owner of Quinta Santo António after the death of his brothers, until his death in November 2002.
His three children took control of the Quinta and immediately started the mechanization process of 50% of the farm replacing the traditional grape varieties with better quality varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz but keeping 50% of the old vines. They also improved the wine making and storage of the wines, following the traditional methods of wine making like crushing the grapes with the feet in granite lagares.
The year 2004 marks the beginning of the commercialization of a Douro wine under the brand name Andorão red. The Andorão white wine was commercialized the following year.
The renovation of the farm house started in 2005 and ended in the first semester of 2006 becoming a rural tourism unit with 9 rooms.
